The story of introduced fishes in New Zealand is quite remarkable. Millions of trout & salmon ova were introduced by a devoted number of early settlers, who fortunately possessed the foresight to start stocking New Zealand's beautiful rivers and lakes with the finest trout and salmon from England and the United States. Since the introduction of the first brown trout in 1867 and the first rainbow trout in 1883 a wide spread fishery has developed throughout both the north and south islands of the country. Today New Zealand is recognised internationally as a trout-fishing paradise providing some of the finest lake, river and wilderness fly fishing available in the world. Tourists appreciate our pristine waterways, native bush environment and the incomparable average size of our natural spawning fish and resident river trout - all of which can be enjoyed in a proximity unequalled anywhere.
